‘Fully funded’ Introduction to Heat Network course launches

Engineers, architects, building services professionals, energy consultants, contractors and developers are all invited to participate, but places are limited. 

Delivered by United Living Group subsidiary GTEC, the online course covers design amd feasibility of various heat network applications. Running costs are covered by the Department for Energy, Sustainability & Net Zero, with the launch coming just before the rollout of new Heat Network Zoning, which the UK Government hopes will ’empower local communities’ and speed up the introduction of low carbon district heating in their area. 

According to GTEC, the short course for engineers, architects, and building services professionals, energy consultants and facility managers, contractors and developers, other professionals in commercial or residential sectors, and anyone keen to learn about heat networks. ‘With much potential to decarbonise built-up environments, the Government sees heat networks as an important growth area for the UK, sustaining jobs, boosting the economy and helping urban and out of town commercial developments move away from fossil fuels,’ said Griff Thomas, GTEC’s Managing Director. 

‘Our new course will provide those with an interest in district heating with the background information to make informed decisions, equipping candidates with the fundamentals of this approach to multi-building heating: whether they’re designing, installing or managing heat networks in the future,’ he added. 

In related news, 1Energy hopes its new civic district heat network in Bradford will provide a new blueprint for carbon-cutting retrofit energy upgrades in historic, listed and ageing buildings. This includes the campuses operated by Bradford College and the University of Bradford, alongside Bradford Courts.
