Aberdeenshire sees further expansion to EV network

Retail sites in Kintore and Banchory are the latest to receive connections.

Allego, one of the UK and Europe’s leading electric vehicle destination and en-route charge point providers, is behind the new installations in two neighbourhoods on the edge of Aberdeen city.

The two locations have been chosen due to their location next to Co-Op stores on the busy A96 and A93 roads, giving drivers the opportunity to access high-powered charging of up to 300kw while they shop. The facilities are some of the first ‘ultra fast’ types in the communities.

‘These new sites are part of Allego’s wider plan to expand ultra-fast charging across the UK,’ said Paz Sharma, Managing Director of Allego UK.

‘By investing in communities with limited or no access and placing chargers on transport routes, we provide reliable high-speed charging where it’s needed most,’ they continued. ‘This supports both local drivers and commuters and helps meet the growing demand from a rapidly expanding EV market.’

In December, residents in the Blackburn neighbourhood of Aberdeen received new connections to the EV network. Also located on the A96 route – which connects the city with Inverness – four 240kw dual socket charge points came online in December. This infrastructure is capable of ‘refuelling’ up to eight vehicles at a time.

2024 saw Scottish electric vehicle sales climb by 57%, with almost one-quarter of all new cars sold in the country now powered by electric batteries. The UK Government currently has a target of delivering 100,000 new charge points – a rollout which requires one new installation every 29 minutes.
