Solar Home Systems promise universal renewable power for Africa

An advanced GPS and Internet of Things-enabled range of easy-to-install products could 1.5billion people plug in locally, without fossil fuels.

Bboxx, and ‘data-driven super platform’, has unveiled a new range of four Solar Home Systems, aimed specifically at communities in regions with no access to a power grid or an unstable connection.

Easily retrofit to private and commercial properties, the technology offers between 80 and 240MW of electricity to users, in many cases transforming living standards and opportunities. The company is already well-established in the market, with 3.5million people in 10 African markets – including Nigeria, Togo and Rwanda, where 10% of total power use comes from such products.

The modular Solar Home Systems feature an interactive screen, allowing customers to check available credit, which is calculated on the energy production of the building, have been designed to be tamper proof and include state-of-the-art lithium batteries. Once connected to the Bboxx Pulse – and integrated operating system offering flexible payment plans adaptable to a customers individual income, the infrastructure is ready to use.

While the mining of raw materials used in batteries has made headlines in recent years due to the severe environmental impact, there has also long been significant questions about how to connect vast proportions of the planet’s population to electricity supplies and the internet. Both of which have profound influence on equality, which is itself now considered a factor in the environmental crisis. According to the International Energy Agency, 750million people across the globe still have no available electricity, and a further 840million are forced to use an unreliable grid for power needs.

‘Our mission at Bboxx goes beyond providing innovative energy products; we are fundamentally committed to ending global energy poverty. Our new product range, with its increased affordability and functionality, allows us to extend our reach and serve more families and small businesses,’ Mansoor Hamayun, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bboxx.

‘We understand that energy is not just about powering appliances; it’s about transforming lives and empowering economies. In providing these solutions, we are an active participant in the global effort to uplift communities that have long been underserved,’ they continued. ‘Our ambition to achieve universal energy access is embodied in every product we launch, and with each offering, we are one step closer to making clean, reliable energy accessible to all. Our world-class product range, that we’re launching today, will transform many more lives in the years to come.’
