Heat pumps, battery and solar PV technology provided by a leading UK renewable energy supplier will deliver toll free electricity for up to 10 years.
Octopus Energy first unveiled plans for its Zero Bills scheme in 2022. Now 57 properties in a development on Tranent Grove, North Dundee, have been earmarked for the project.
Built by Discovery Homes, the addresses will use a combination of technologies – including heat pumps, battery and solar PV – to provide low and no carbon power. These add to the 5,000 homes already approved across the country, including affordable rentals, shared and private ownership buildings.
‘At Discovery Homes, our mission has always been to build properties that don’t just meet today’s standards but anticipate the needs of the future,’ said company director Grant White. ‘Partnering with Octopus Energy to deliver Scotland’s first Zero Bills homes at Tranent Grove is a proud milestone for us. By integrating cutting-edge green technology with our high-quality builds, we are offering our owners long-term financial peace of mind and a sustainable lifestyle that was once a pipe dream.
‘Scotland is a renewable energy powerhouse – making it the perfect next spot for us to roll out Zero Bills home,’ said Nigel Banks, Zero Bills director, Octopus Energy, which wants to approve 100,000 Zero Bills homes by 2030. The initiative is now running in the UK, Germany, France, and New Zealand. ‘By working with leading developers like Discovery Homes, we’re shaking up the future of housing, bringing the reality of no home energy bills to the people of Scotland.’
