Wiltshire gets new Green Skills Innovation Centre funded through renewables

The cutting edge facility will have prepare the next generation of transition and clean energy workers.

Funding has come from renewable supplier Good Energy, which is working in partnership with Wiltshire College & University Centre. The training centre is located at the educational institution’s Lackham Campus, and includes a former period property which has been transformed into an Eco House.

Overall, £500,000 has been spent on the project so far, with courses launching to upskill people in areas such as solar PV and heat pump installations, battery storage, and smart domestic energy systems. The idea is to give trainees hands-on, real-world experience in emerging, developing and established technologies which play a role in the UK’s energy transition.

‘Britain’s shift to clean, secure, home‑grown energy depends not just on technology, but on people. The Eco House at the Green Skills Innovation Centre gives trainees the practical experience they need to become the renewable engineers of the future,’ said Carl Hogg, Services Managing Director at Good Energy. ‘We’re proud to partner with Wiltshire College & University Centre to help build the workforce that will install the heat pumps, solar panels and smart systems powering the next era of British energy.

‘Our Green Skills Innovation Centre is designed to help employers understand what is possible with today’s renewable technologies and to provide the skilled workforce required to deliver it,’ added Iain Hatt, Principal & Chief Executive of Wiltshire College & University Centre. Partnering with Good Energy – one of the UK’s most experienced clean‑energy organisations – on the Eco House has been invaluable in ensuring it reflects real industry needs.’
