Biomethane HGVs en route to UK’s biggest ports

A new refuelling station is strategically located to serve the busiest maritime facilities and 90% of the country’s population.

 

ReFuels has now begun construction on the 100% renewable biomethane (Bio-CNG)  refuelling station at Doncaster. Once open, this will make low-carbon deliveries to and from Britain’s biggest port by tonnage, Immingham Docks. 

In total, four of the largest ports in the UK will be served, slashing HGV emissions, including iPort in Doncaster, which is currently the most advanced multimodal logistics hub in the country. Onwards transport of goods to wholesale and resale distribution centres from these facilities reaches 9/10 residential addresses. 

Once operational, the station, which is operated by CNG Fuels, will slash carbon emissions from HGV fleets by 90%. The fuel, produced from manure and food waste, will be available through 12 refuelling pump, and up to 500 HGVs can be fuelled daily. At that rate, 60,000 tons of CO2 would be saved each year, with 40% lifetime cost savings compared to diesel. 

‘Fleets around the country are under significant pressure to slash emissions and today, there’s only one viable option – 100% renewable biomethane. Our latest site to enter construction in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, is set to transform access to Bio-CNG for fleets travelling to and from the UK’s largest ports,’ said Philip Fjeld, CEO and Co-Founder of ReFuels.

‘As a key logistics hub in the UK, the Doncaster station will not only expand the reach of low-carbon deliveries for our existing customers, including the likes of Amazon, DHL, and Lidl, but many more major brands and local hauliers looking to make substantial emission cuts of over 90% from fleets,’ he continued. ‘And we’re not stopping here – ReFuels is continuing to open and build new stations up and down the country, to cater to the soaring demand for low-carbon fuel.’
