The newly-launched group aims to establish a network for sharing expert knowledge, peer support and opportunities for decarbonisation at an organisational level.

On 12th September a Normative Net-Zero Community meeting will be held at Axicom, Southwark, London. UK sustainability professionals are invited to participate in an open discussion, with the even coming after a members-only gathering which took place in Sweden.

Maggie Buggie, Chief Operating Officer at Normative, a carbon accounting platform behind the community, will be speaking on the evening and outlined the intentions: ‘As the legislative and business opportunities of sustainability grow leaders need a space to connect, learn and collaborate. We hope the Net-Zero Community will be a catalyst for unique pathways for businesses to reach net zero and create competitive advantage.’

Launched earlier this year, Net Zero Community focuses on a knowledge-sharing model of engagement with the business community, facilitating conversations around corporate and organisational-level decarbonisation plans, approaches, successes and failures. Over the past year, a number of Environment Journal news stories and features have shone a light on widespread confusion around net zero, and a new prioritisation on delivery as national and regional policies, legal limits and requirements tighten.

Earlier this month, a new white paper was published which suggested the commonly accepted Science Based Targets initiative for net zero and decarbonisation was essentially unworkable for any organisation with 500 members of staff or less, highlighting the importance of engagement between different stakeholders, allowing a better understanding of proven and most effective approaches to overcome challenges at various scales of operation.
