Companies in Essex can sign up for bite-sized training modules to encourage sustainable practices.

The new Great Start programme also awards badges to firms that have completed training in full, helping customers authenticate green claims.

Free educational videos have been made which can offer further support to businesses in their net zero transition. These films have been created for organisations of varying sizes and sectors, and offer universal recommendations and guidance.

The clips have already been viewed hundreds of times since going live late-August, and feedback from participating firms is being reviewed and engaged with to inform new content. This will be rolled out on a staggered basis to help keep modules fresh and up-to-date. The launch follows the authority’s recently revised Business Advice Pack and Design Guide.

‘The Great Start programme is an invaluable tool for businesses to help them develop sustainable practices. It also helps them meet national and international regulations and stay competitive in a fast-changing market,’ said Tony Ball, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Education Excellence.

‘This programme is for all businesses of any sector to ensure we are all on the same ambitious journey to net-zero,’ he continued.
‘Our goal is to ensure our business community is not left behind in the shift to greener ways of working. We encourage feedback from businesses — after all the programme was born from local organisations expressing their interest in sustainability, but not quite knowing where to start on their journeys.’
