13 high performance electric buses are bound for one of the county’s leading operators.
Falcon Buses has unveiled a new fleet of ‘next generation’ Alexander Dennis Enviro200EV single-deckers. The vehicles will enter service on the 436 and 461 routes, respectively ferrying passengers between Weybridge and Woking, and Kingston and St Peter’s Hospital.
The operator is now the first member of the Association of Local Bus Managers to run the manufacturers most advanced electric vehicle model, which has capacity to seat 37 passengers, in addition to offering several standing room spaces, two wheelchair and buggy spots.
In order to keep the vehicles on the road, new charging infrastructure has been installed at Falcon’s West Byfleet depot. This includes a dedicate 1,500kVA power supply, six 60kW and three 120kW chargers.
‘We chose the next-generation Enviro200EV for our first electric buses after attending Alexander Dennis’s track days event at Millbrook,’ said Falcon Buses Managing Director, Richard Telling. ‘We were looking at our initial steps for going zero-emission with support of Surrey County Council at the time, and I just loved the product, especially the futuristic looks and the new styling.’
‘The Enviro200 has been the backbone of Falcon’s fleet and many other successful bus operations across the country, and it has earned that position because it is practical, dependable and efficient,’ added Mark Taylor, Regional Sales Manager for Alexander Dennis. ‘With the Enviro200EV, we have taken those same strengths and carried them forward into a zero-emission platform designed for the demands of daily service.’
