Low Carbon confirms 385MW of solar energy and battery storage
The global renewables company has confirmed a financial close to pay for the new infrastructure, which will significantly boost its UK capacity.
Construction for the majority of the new estate will begin in 2024, and once complete will provide 290MW of solar energy, powering approximately 85,000 homes, cutting carbon emissions by 130,000 tonnes each year. A further 95MW of battery energy storage also forms part of the blueprint.
The news confirms that Low Carbon is well on track with its pipeline plans to complete 3GW of clean energy projects across Britain, cementing the firm’s place as one of the leading Independent Power Producers.
Prominent EPC contractors, Equans, and its subsidiary Bouygues Energies & Services, Elmya, and Trina Storage are all partnering on this latest phase of development. Since 2022, Low Carbon has raised around £1billion in direct financing for its strategic expansion
‘We are delighted to have reached a financial close on this large portfolio of renewable assets, which will contribute towards the UK’s aim of achieving net zero and our own target of delivering 20GW of renewable capacity by 2030. The milestone reflects the tireless work of our development teams and supply chain partners over several years,’ said Steve Mack, Chief Investment Officer at Low Carbon.
‘The team is particularly excited to begin constructing 95MW of co-located, two-hour battery storage assets, a key enabling technology that will help accelerate the transition,’ he continued. ‘The employment of storage alongside our solar assets is an efficient use of limited grid capacity and will support the UK’s efforts to tackle climate change.’
