Huge green jobs gain as Aira heat pumps launch in UK

The Swedish company, which offers heat pump subscriptions, will create 8,000 new roles in the sector.

The firm aims to bring one million UK customers off gas and onto cleaner energy sources, reducing costs by 25% and CO2 emissions by 75%. Homes supplied by fully green electricity will see their carbon output vanish completely.

Downing Street having set a target of seeing 600,000 new installations each year by 2028, and there are 25million fossil fuel-burning boilers currently installed in UK homes. However, the perception of large up-front costs and domestic disruption have proven difficult purchasing factors to overcome.

Many of Aira’s clean-tech solutions, which include intelligent heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage and electricity tariffs, require no initial payment with packages paid off over time. Meanwhile, the availability of UK Government grants for households making the switch is also expected to drive significant sales.

Following the launch, £300million will be invested by the Scandinavian company over the next three years as operations are scaled up. Plans currently require some 8,000 new members of staff, including qualified engineers, to be on hand as demand continues to grow. A series of academies will be established in various locations across the UK to boost provision of and access to necessary training courses.
