Major UK ground source heat pump deal upgrades thousands of homes

The largest agreement of its kind in British history between a utility infrastructure provider and energy system manufacturer will target new build properties across the country.

GTC, the UK’s leading installer and operator of last mile multi-utility networks, and the Kensa Group – Britain’s top rated manufacturer and installer of domestically-made ground source heat pumps – are collaborating as part of the Networked Ground Source Heat Pump solution.

From next year, new developments will be built under the Future Homes Standard, which requires low-carbon heating solutions as an alternative to gas in the form of a ground source heat pump in each property, connected through hidden underground pipework. Using Shoebox model, the partnership with GTC will add significant scale to this mammoth undertaking, save space and alow for a rapid rollout of the equipment itself. The design is small enough to fit beneath water cylinders inside the home, so no external work is needed, installation is expedited and the external look of a property is unaffected.

‘A big challenge housebuilders face is additional grid capacity for low carbon technologies. This partnership brings an end-to-end heat, hot water, and cooling solution with the same power requirements as gas-heated homes,’ said GTC’s Executive Chairman, Clive Lindsell. ‘Our working with Kensa provides housebuilders and developers reassurance around the quality of installation and equipment, and homeowners 100% peace of mind in relation to its ongoing operation and maintenance.’

‘We are delighted to partner with GTC to bring this leading heating and cooling solution to the UK’s housebuilders,’ added Tamsin Lishman, CEO of Kensa Group. ‘Using the heat from the ground beneath our feet, boosted by Kensa’s small and highly efficient ground source heat pumps, homeowners will enjoy comfort and warmth, at low costs. We’ve been delivering this proven solution at scale for over a decade, providing reliable home heating to thousands of UK homes, and by working with GTC, we look forward to delivering a successful transition to electrified heating.’
