Solar panels, heat pumps and energy-efficient measures can now be installed at little-to-no cost to households.
ECO4 Flex and the Great British Insulation Scheme Flex [GBIS] is now being offered by Essex County Council through the Better Housing Better Health scheme.
Combined household incomes must be lower than £31,000 and the offer is only available to properties with an Energy Performance Certificate between D and G. Council tax bands A to D are also invited to apply. A low EPC rating can cost hundreds of pounds per year in energy bills, reduce the value of a property and ultimately harm the environment. However, improving it can come with an upfront cost many people can’t afford.
‘ECO4 Flex and the Great British Insulation Scheme Flex will help ensure low-income households and vulnerable residents are able to access valuable energy-saving measures. I strongly encourage Essex residents to check their eligibility on our website,’ said Peter Schwier. ‘ECO4 Flex and the Great British Insulation Scheme Flex will help ensure low-income households and vulnerable residents are able to access valuable energy-saving measures. Recent research has shown that the UK has huge differences in terms of house stock energy performance. Properties in the north of England were found to perform the worst, with seven of the 10 regions listed located in this party of the country. However, in terms of localities, the Scilly Islands ranked as the least energy efficient. One Essex council was included, Castle Point.
