Projects that reduce agriculture emissions have received funding

Five projects which focus on reducing agricultural emissions have been awarded funding in the Scottish Knowledge and Innovation Fund (KTIF).

The chosen projects have a specific focus on resource efficiency, cutting emissions, environmental performance, and sustainability of agricultural holdings.

The Knowledge Transfer and Innovation Fund is delivered through the Scottish Government’s rural budget. The projects are supported by just over £170,000 of funding.

Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon said: ‘In the run up to COP26, the whole world was thinking about what needs to be done in order to combat climate change and what we need to do going forward.

‘It is clear that we all need to work together to reach our climate goals. I’m looking forward to seeing how the successful projects will help us do that. That’s why investing and supporting knowledge transfer and innovation within our agricultural sector has never been more important.’

Projects include Agroforestry in Action, a project which aims to raise awareness and provide farmers with resources and information for agroforestry in Scotland.

Another project is 2. Soil Health – A Route Towards Net Zero for the Scottish Livestock Industry.

The aim of this project is to help the Scottish agricultural industry meet the Scottish Government’s targets by becoming more efficient – specifically, through better management of soil health.

In related news, animal agriculture is responsible for 14% of global CO2 emissions, according to a study conducted by Blue Horizon and PwC.
