The event is open to anyone involved or interested in increasing sustainability within the UK public healthcare system.

Delivered by the innovation arm of the NHS in the east of England and product design and innovation consultancy 42 Technology (42T), the Driving Innovation: Paving the Path to a Net Zero NHS webinar will take place on Tuesday 24th September. The session runs from 9.30AM to 1PM BST.

Chaired by Maria Mackay, Senior Commercial Advisor at Health Innovation East, presentations will be made on the importance of net zero to the future of healthcare, while a roundtable will be held on how to overcome barriers to change.

Issues including patient mobility solutions, PPE, current sustainability initiatives and the NHS’ commitment to become the world’s first health service to reach net zero, with a target of 2045, will also be discussed. An interactive Q&A session featuring two leading innovators will also take place, with Lise Pepe, founder of Walk In Path, and Tom Dawson, of Revolution-ZERO.

Tailored follow up sessions will be offered to all attendees, with organisation-specific advice from experts at 42T, Health Innovation East and Eco Sourcing Hub. This will include specific carbon footprint measurement advice and reduction recommendations.

Globally, healthcare is responsible for 5%of all greenhouse gas emissions, while climate change and the environmental crisis are adding significant pressure to medical services. Heat waves, floods, droughts and other extreme weather events, air, water and plastic pollution are known causes of conditions ranging from heart disease and stress to asthma and cancers.
