Our leadership team is devoted to improvement, driven by ambition and eager to explore new opportunities in how we can make Cheshire East the best place to live, work and visit. We’re confident about our offer, we know what we need to deliver and we have the resources to make it happen.

About the Role

This is a truly exciting opportunity to make a positive difference in Cheshire East. We’re at an exciting juncture. We have adopted an ambitious environment strategy, an equally ambitious local transport plan, have an adopted local plan strategy and have established an impressive portfolio of strategic investment projects that support our ambitions for the environment, regeneration and sustainable transport.

This role is hugely exciting and designed for someone who is keen to help build a sustainable, highly effective organisation, enhancing our reputation as a Council and continuing to improve service delivery and outcomes for local people.

As the Executive Director for Place, you will provide strategic and inspirational leadership across a wide range of front line and strategic services leading and developing a culture of achievement and excellence.

As a member of the Corporate Leadership Team, you will provide collective leadership for the Council, working collaboratively with Members, the services across the Council, partners and stakeholders to deliver our objectives and priorities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of strategies, policies and programmes that cover environmental services, planning, regeneration, housing and transport.
  • Driving the delivery of our aim to create sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
  • Leading engagement with partners, businesses, communities, customers and investors.
  • Ensuring that the Council’s Arm’s Length Management Organisations are held to account for delivering high quality services.
  • Maintaining a good balance between protecting the environment, maintaining a safe, clean and green environment, and supporting the amenity services necessary to improve the quality of life of our residents.

As a member of the Corporate Leadership Team, you will shape the direction of our public service reform agenda and ensure we deliver our priorities and give value to residents. You will also provide a strategic vision for the future development of services to enable the Council to meet its future challenges, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

About you

Working for the Council will give you a chance to work on high profile, cross-Council work. We will need you to lead by example by modelling and embedding the Council’s core values and behaviours to help build a sustainable, highly effective organisation. You will work to develop our reputation as a successful Council in delivering our commitment to put customers at the heart of what we do, and provide real and lasting value to residents, businesses and communities.

You will act as a champion for the needs of local people, create an environment to foster organisational agility, creativity and teamwork, where boundaries are pushed and this becomes the DNA of how the Council and associated services operate.

If you have what it takes to provide outstanding leadership and direction as part of our new senior team, across a portfolio of services, driving service transformation and ensuring excellent joint working with Members and other stakeholders, then we’d love to hear from you.
