Overview

Our Planning, Growth and Sustainability directorate works with partners to help shape the future of Buckinghamshire, delivering services on planning, economic growth, regeneration, strategic infrastructure, transport, and property.

Our key priorities include developing the economic narrative for Buckinghamshire, creating more jobs, and delivering the right infrastructure to help businesses and residents thrive. We also aim to provide a proactive planning service that is responsive, whilst making the best use of the council’s land and property portfolio. This will in turn support community services and create housing, jobs, regeneration, and income to support public services.

About the role

And for that, we need strong, proactive leadership. A Corporate Director who’ll develop and deliver our Planning, Growth and Sustainability strategy, build relationships with key partners, and create lasting success for the service and our communities.

About you

If you join us, you will provide strategic direction, operational management, and financial control for the directorate that you are responsible for.

You will also have a critical part to play as a member of our corporate team, working with our politicians and partners as well as across management structures and boundaries to get the best for our residents, businesses, and communities.

Significant strategic leadership, and relevant professional experience gained in a political environment are a must for this pivotal role, and we are seeking someone who:

  • Can bring a high degree of political awareness, and commitment to working closely with all councillors, local organisations, and communities.
  • Possesses a detailed understanding of the statutory, policy, and service delivery framework in which local government operates, and the issues faced.
  • Has a successful track record in corporate performance management and participation in the formulation of corporate objectives, policies, and strategies.
  • Will communicate confidently at all levels, and has a high degree of diplomatic skills, particularly in motivating, negotiating, and persuading others.
  • Is able to manage resources effectively in a complex environment, including the ability to interpret and understand complex financial and budgetary information.
