Bristol opts for integrated waste service

Bristol City Council has approved plans for all its waste services to be delivered by one council-owned company.

The agreement will see Bristol Waste Company (BWC) take over responsibility for waste collection and disposal for the next ten years.

The council hopes the new contract will provide new opportunities for dealing with the city’s waste and improve recycling rates.

Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, said: ‘We have been given a real opportunity to make a difference to Bristol’s streets, and after considering all the facts, we believe that Bristol Waste Company offer us the best chance to achieve our ambitious goals for the city.

‘There is a lot of work to be done, but we hope that a ten year contract will allow us the stability to make serious progress towards tidying up our streets.’
